The new 20010/11 season kicks off this Saturday, September 4th at the usual time of 10.30. The subscription for the season (Sept-May) is again £30.

New members will need to complete a registration form and bring this to the registration desk this weekend along with a cheque for £30 (payable to ‘Broomwood FC’) for each child. Existing members do not need to complete a form but will need to confirm their existing details are correct and pay their subscription. Registration will take place over the first few weeks of the season - please try and bring completed forms/cheques with you to save time. You must be registered to play.

Note that you are not able to leave your children unattended by yourself or a guardian. This is a volunteer-run club, and we do not have the necessary status to care for unsupervised children. Children who are found to be there unattended will be de-registered and not allowed to take part for the season – no exceptions.

Because the club is run by volunteer parents we can only survive with new helpers joining each year. We always welcome extra help either reffing, building goals, baking cakes or collecting rubbish afterwards. We have 300 children of many ages, and the number of helpers per year group is too low at the moment. Please do not hesitate to step forward – you will get a very warm response, and maybe even your own whistle.Registration form 2010-11

As usual each year group will have a tournament followed by the presentation of a trophy to the winning teams and medals to all participants. Food and drink will be available.

A lot of organisation goes into the day so please bear in mind a few things that will help things run smoothly:

1. Turn up at 10am!

2. The head coaches for each year will need help - please make yourselves available on the day, and beforehand if possible. They will need team managers, referees, goal-builders, pitch markers and maybe even a phsysio with a magic sponge. There will be people setting up on the common from 8.30am.

3. Stay and watch! Have a bite and a beer and watch the kids.

4. Help clear up afterwards! Bring a bin liner or 2 or help your year put stuff away.

The reason that Broomwood FC runs as smoothly as it so clearly does, is because periodically we get together and actually talk about things. And then sometimes even do some of them.

There is now a small army of parents involved in coaching, making cakes and coffee, doing the cart run, buying kit, doing the accounts, running league teams, dealing with CRB checks and many, many other things - all so that 300 kids can enjoy playing football in a fantastic environment each Saturday.

So a little planning does go a long way.

As the club has grown over the last few years, so it has also had to grow up a bit. Our occasional get-togethers in a curry house are now called AGMs and this time will require a bigger venue. Please put this year’s in the diary:

Tuesday 31st March
7.30-9.00
County Arms pub (upstairs function room)
…then in the bar afterwards.
http://www.countyarms.co.uk/

If you can make it, please let Tom Gueterbock know so he can manage numbers. Tom’s email is tom@3rdsense.com.

Subject to weather being more amenable, it is anticipated that we will be holding our last game this side of Xmas on this coming Saturday 20th Dec, to resume on 3rd January 2009.

To mark the end of an exciting and record breaking membership term (322 kids are now members!) the club will be hosting mulled wine and mince pies on the common after the games have concluded. To complement this, could parents and guardians please contribute by bringing extra food like sausage rolls, crisps and any drinks for the kids.

The Broomwood FC new season starts again on Saturday September 6th at 10:30 am*, in the usual place on Wandsworth Common. For newcomers, note that you simply need to turn up at the common (in plenty of time) ready for the children’s line up and game allocation.

Registration will take place over the first few weeks. You must be registered to play, and you must pay as you register – cheque (to Broomwood FC) or cash. The registration fee for the year to May 2009 will be £30**.

Note that you are not able to leave your children unattended by yourself or a guardian. This is a voluntary run club, and we do not have the status for drop offs. Children who are found to be there unattended will be de-registered and not allowed to take part for the season – no exceptions.

Also note, this is a club which will only survive with parental involvement. We need you to be on the pitch, helping co-ordinate, helping the head coaches, and even with registration, equipment and events. We have 300 children of many ages, and the amount of helpers per year group is too low at the moment. Please do not hesitate to step forward – you will get a very warm response, and maybe even your own whistle.

Currently, we know we need:
• Additional Reception/Under 5 assistant coaches (you do not need to be qualified at all, simply keen)
• Additional Year 6,7 and 8 assistant coaches/refs (again, experience not necessary, though some rules knowledge useful)
• Equipment rota volunteers (especially to return equipment to garage)
• Registration helpers (to help in the first busy weeks)

Do write your name down at registration if you would like to get more involved. Or contact us if you have any queries.

* Note for organisers is that we will be there on Saturday August 30th at 10:30 am to do a soft start with a selection of last years children to sort out kit and pitch allocations.

** For those boys who are members of our league teams, there will be an additional £35 to cover team related costs.
