Broomwood FC 2008-09
The Broomwood FC new season starts again on Saturday September 6th at 10:30 am*, in the usual place on Wandsworth Common. For newcomers, note that you simply need to turn up at the common (in plenty of time) ready for the children’s line up and game allocation.
Registration will take place over the first few weeks. You must be registered to play, and you must pay as you register – cheque (to Broomwood FC) or cash. The registration fee for the year to May 2009 will be £30**.
Note that you are not able to leave your children unattended by yourself or a guardian. This is a voluntary run club, and we do not have the status for drop offs. Children who are found to be there unattended will be de-registered and not allowed to take part for the season – no exceptions.
Also note, this is a club which will only survive with parental involvement. We need you to be on the pitch, helping co-ordinate, helping the head coaches, and even with registration, equipment and events. We have 300 children of many ages, and the amount of helpers per year group is too low at the moment. Please do not hesitate to step forward – you will get a very warm response, and maybe even your own whistle.
Currently, we know we need:
• Additional Reception/Under 5 assistant coaches (you do not need to be qualified at all, simply keen)
• Additional Year 6,7 and 8 assistant coaches/refs (again, experience not necessary, though some rules knowledge useful)
• Equipment rota volunteers (especially to return equipment to garage)
• Registration helpers (to help in the first busy weeks)
Do write your name down at registration if you would like to get more involved. Or contact us if you have any queries.
* Note for organisers is that we will be there on Saturday August 30th at 10:30 am to do a soft start with a selection of last years children to sort out kit and pitch allocations.
** For those boys who are members of our league teams, there will be an additional £35 to cover team related costs.
Broomwood FC Festival
Our annual end of season Festival is this Saturday, May 17th. It starts at the earlier time of 10am! As usual each year will have a tournament for all the kids followed by the presentation of a trophy to the winning teams and medals to all participants. Food and drink will be available and given a bit of help from the weather it’s a great chance to get the whole club together before the summer hiatus.
A lot of organisation goes into the day so please bear in mind a few things that will help things run smoothly:
1. Turn up at 10am!
2. The head coaches for each year will need help - please make yourselves available on the day, and beforehand if possible. They will need team managers, referees, goal-builders, pitch markers and maybe even a phsysio with a magic sponge. There will be people setting up on the common from 8.30am.
3. Stay and watch! Don’t slip off to the shops… Have a bite and a beer and watch the kids.
4. Help clear up afterwards! Bring a bin liner or 2 or help your year put stuff away.
Did I mention it starts at 10am?
Easter weekend as normal
Normal football activities will continue this Saturday despite the bank holiday weekend.
Football cancelled - again
The non-stop rain we have had this week has put paid to any football again this Saturday 19th. How much more water can be up there?
Football cancelled
The council have had to cancel all football on the common this weekend (Sat 12th Jan) because of waterlogging. Please pass the word around to anyone who might not get the message in time. And then remember to have a lie in.
Christmas at Broomwood
This Saturday is the last gathering before Christmas with a number of additional fun activities being planned. Start time is as normal at 10.30am continuing until around midday. Hopefully the weather will hold but be prepared for an email on Friday if the Council deem the pitches water logged, albeit unlikely.
For adults and in true festive spirit (literally!) mulled wine will be available rather than coffee/tea with minced pies to accompany - all on the house!
For the kids there will be some hot chocolate and apple/orange juice. Could parents please bring snacks for kids e.g. sausages, crisps, cake, sweets etc. to help out.
Normal sessions will resume on Saturday 5th January.

There is a Junior Club day fixture on Saturday December 22nd against Wigan. These are great value and a safe and enjoyable way to watch football at one of the best grounds in the league. Ticket prices are still tbc but are usually £5 for kids and £15 or £20 for adults. The better seats do go early, even to see Wigan, so please let Tom know how many tickets you would like to reserve. The club (Broomwood not Fulham) provides free transport by coach to and from the game. Kick off is at 3pm.
Contact Tom (tom at 3rdsense dot com) with any questions.
Saturday 8th – football cancelled
Unfortunately the Broomwood FC pitches are waterlogged and Wandsworth Council have sent out an order asking us not to play this weekend.
We will resume play on December 15th unless a similar order comes out.
Fulham v Man City - final details
All those that requested tickets have been sent confirmation of their allocation. Please check these and email Tom if there are any discrepancies.
Those travelling by coach will need to meet at 3.45 on Sat 22nd at the junction of Bolingbroke and Thurleigh Rd. Tickets will be handed out as you get on the coach. Kick-off is at 5.15. As usual, the seats are allocated in blocks of adults and children so the tickets I give you will just be for entry to the ground and you will be able to sit anywhere within the club’s allocation of seats - this ensures you can sit close to loved ones and or children, should you wish.
Fulham have a slightly irritating policy of searching bags on entry and insisting that lids are removed from bottles. So be prepared or remove lids outside and stick in a pocket.
The coach will return at around 8pm to the pick-up point.
London Saturday Youth League kicks off
The Broomwood Colts u11 and u12 teams have started their seasons, while the new u10s are still to play their first match. The u11s drew 3-3 against Bethwin, while our first ever u12s team beat Thelassy 3-0. Keep in touch with results and league tables using the links under the Blogroll list on the right.
